Terrazzo tiles manufacturing process
Terrazzo tiles ingredients are the same as the ones used during end XIX century: marble chips, marble powder, Portland white cement, inorganic coloring oxides, fine aggregates and accurate cement additives.
The body mix of Terrazzo tiles is carefully prepared, casted in tempered steel moulds where a brass divider separates the pattern colors.
The terrazzo tile mould is vibrated to equalize the terrazzo mix and eliminate air; then compacted under a high pressure hidraulique press.
Extracted from the mould, the terrazzo tiles harden and cure in humid cells under controlled temperature. This seasoning and hardening process needs 21 days.
Finally a careful polishing process eliminates a 3 mm upper layer and reveals the beauty of the marble chips mixed in colored cement.
Tiles 22mm - 7/8" thick
Upper layer (coloured mix) 8mm - 1/4" thick
